New Cardiovascular Risk Factors Named, Including Worst Toxins

Traditional risk factors for heart disease include high cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, and smoking but cannot account for at least 15% of heart attacks. As new research indicates, there are likely emerging risk factors operating behind the scenes, referred to by the umbrella term “exposome".

Environmental toxins are increasingly being implicated as a new risk factor for heart disease with air pollution, noise pollution, and light pollution listed as some of the worst offenders. Food and water contaminated by heavy metals or pesticides are also thought to negatively impact heart health.

Mental health issues like chronic stress, depression, social isolation, and loneliness are now believed to significantly contribute to cardiovascular disease as well. Gum diseases recently made it onto the list of infections that can harm the heart, indicating that good oral habits are key throughout life.

“Addressing the exposome to protect the heart is not as straightforward as taking a pill against cholesterol or blood pressure,” said Dr. Rocco A. Montone, lead study author. “Nevertheless, being aware of these risks is vital, and every individual should make every effort to reduce these risk factors concerning both individuals and the society as a whole.”

Higher Protein Intake Linked to Healthier Aging, Fewer Health Conditions

Eating larger amounts of protein (particularly plant-based protein) could significantly increase the likelihood of healthy aging – defined as being free of 11 major chronic diseases, having good mental health, and not having physical or cognitive impairment – a recent study has found.

The study analyzed self-reported data, including protein intake and type, from more than 48,000 female nurses who were all under age 60 at baseline. Over the 32-year study period, those who consumed more protein in general during midlife had a greater chance of achieving healthy aging and avoiding chronic diseases.

However, plant-based protein, specifically, was linked to the greatest benefits and a 46% higher chance of remaining healthy into old age. Animal-based protein, by contrast, was associated with a 6% lower chance of healthy aging.

Whether these results stemmed fully from the type of protein or the fact that plant foods often contain fiber, antioxidants, and other beneficial compounds could not be determined. Current daily guidelines recommend a range of 0.8-1.2 g of protein per kilogram of body weight (54-82 g for a 150 lb person) for adults 50 and over to avoid muscle mass loss.

Younger-Looking Skin Around Your Eyes, Zero Toxin Worries

Are you frustrated with the appearance of puffiness, crow’s feet, wrinkles, dark circles, and sagging skin around your eyes?

Signs of aging often show up first on the skin that surrounds your eyes – and it takes more than just a “normal” anti-aging product to get rid of them. That’s because this area of skin is highly sensitive and delicate, needing exactly the right balance of nourishing and rejuvenating ingredients to “turn back the clock”. Unfortunately, many eye products ignore this and use synthetic, harsh, and potentially toxic ingredients that can actually harm your skin (and your health) in the long run.

Purity Woods does things differently with their USDA Certified Organic Age-Defying Eye Cream. It feeds your skin nature’s most effective AND gentle elastin-boosting, collagen-boosting, and hydrating botanicals – including many potent ingredients you rarely see elsewhere, such as babchi oil with bakuchiol (aka the “natural retinol alternative”), revolutionary maple leaf extracts, and resveratrol-rich smartweed extract. All specifically formulated for the delicate skin around your eyes with ZERO synthetic chemicals and ZERO toxin worries.

Tendonitis vs. Carpal Tunnel: Key Differences + Symptoms

Tendonitis and carpal tunnel syndrome can both cause pain in your wrists and hands but are very different conditions. Tendonitis involves the inflammation of one or more tendons, usually causing pain and/or swelling that gets worse with activity. Carpal tunnel occurs when the median nerve running through your wrist is irritated or compressed, causing pain, numbness, and tingling in the hands and fingers. Both can often be treated in the beginning stages with rest and specific exercises. (More)

Better Oral Health May Boost Mental Wellbeing in Older Adults

Oral health can have a surprising impact on other aspects of physical health. Previous research has shown that it particularly impacts the heart, and a new study has now found that better oral health may also improve mental wellness, particularly in older adults. This could be because having good dental and mouth health allows for better nutritional intake from a variety of foods, which directly affects mental health – or for reasons yet unexplored. (More)

Exercise Boosts Reaction Time, May Improve Cognitive Health

Dopamine is a hormone and neurotransmitter tied to pleasure, satisfaction, and motivation. Research has already shown that it increases during exercise, which is why your mood might improve after a workout. A new study has now found that dopamine is also linked to a faster reaction time during exercise and could have benefits for cognitive function, including for conditions like Parkinson's disease, depression, and ADHD. However, more research is needed to determine the long-term effects of dopamine release from exercise. (More)

Unintentional Weight Loss: A Key Signal to See a Medical Expert

Losing weight without meaning to is a big warning sign that something is wrong inside your body. Research has specifically associated it with a greater risk of getting a cancer diagnosis within a year, although it can also signify a different health issue – like a gastrointestinal disorder. The bottom line is that you should get checked out by a health professional if you start shedding pounds unintentionally. (More)

6 Critical Vitamin A Health Benefits, Including Lower Cancer Risk

Vitamin A is a fat-soluble nutrient that's highly important to your overall health. One of its most important functions is to keep your eyes healthy, and it may even help protect against age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Vitamin A is also critical for optimal immune function and bone health, while a deficiency is linked to a greater risk of acne. A higher intake of vitamin A from plant foods – in the form of carotenoids – is even associated with a lower overall cancer risk. (Be sure to see the top vitamin A foods right below ↓) (More)

5 Mistakes That Worsen Dark Circles & Puffy Eyes

The delicate area around your eyes takes a lot of abuse from all directions – exposure to harmful UV rays, wear and tear from facial expressions, toxins in many skincare and cosmetics products, and more.

This abuse is a key reason you may suffer with dark circles, bags, crow’s feet, and puffiness around the eyes (especially if you’re over 40). And unfortunately, many people make one or more common blunders when using eye creams, doing even more harm while trying to fix the problem – and wasting a lot of money in the process.

You can now discover the 5 common mistakes most make when it comes to choosing – and using – an eye cream in this clear and concise guide from Purity Woods. In it, you’ll discover why you should NEVER use a 1-ingredient eye cream (even vitamin C), the worst hidden skin aging accelerators that are particularly hazardous to your eye area, the single-most important thing your eye cream must contain, and more. See the 5 most common ‘eye zone’ mistakes for yourself right here.
